Huntington Beach City School District (HBCSD) is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Ammie Ibarra as the new assistant principal of Sowers Middle School. Dr. Ibarra will assume her new role at the start of the 2026–2027 school year.

Dr. Ibarra brings two decades of public education experience at both the site and district levels, with a distinguished record in fostering supportive campus environments, positive behavior interventions, and collaborative professional learning. She most recently served as an Assistant Principal in the Lawndale Elementary School District, where she helped lead schools to achieve state-level Gold and Platinum PBIS recognition, coordinated student success teams, and coached certificated and classified staff.

With an extensive background in middle school environments, Dr. Ibarra previously served as a Middle School Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) and Summer School Principal in the Redondo Beach Unified School District. She began her teaching career as an 8th Grade Language Arts and Honors teacher, where her impact earned her recognition as Teacher of the Year. Her well-rounded perspective spans special education, student activities direction, and curriculum alignment.

Dr. Ibarra earned her Doctor of Education in Leadership Innovation from Purdue University Global, a Master of Arts in Education from Pepperdine University, and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from California State University, Dominguez Hills.

“Dr. Ibarra’s deep middle school experience, her expertise in positive behavior support systems, and her collaborative spirit make her a great match for Sowers Middle School,” said HBCSD Superintendent Dr. Leisa Winston. “We are excited to see the impact her leadership will bring to the Sowers community.”

Please join us in warmly welcoming Dr. Ibarra to Sowers Middle School and the HBCSD community.
