Huntington Beach City School District (HBCSD) celebrated the Week of the Young Child, a nationwide event sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), designed to spotlight the importance of early learning and the remarkable contributions of children and their educators.
Throughout the week, the District preschool programs hosted a vibrant lineup of hands-on activities that brought this year’s daily themes to life across classrooms.
Here’s a look at how each day inspired our youngest learners:
Music & Movement Monday kicked off the week with scarf dance parties, homemade shaker crafts, and joyful marches to music. Students explored rhythm and expression through movement and sound.
Tasty Tuesday combined sensory fun and family bonding. Children made cereal necklaces, experimented with Skittles rainbows, and enjoyed creative food-themed activities like the “My Cookie ABC Name” project—and had the opportunity to share lunch with a loved one.
Work Together Wednesday was all about collaboration. From magnet tile castles to team scavenger hunts and big blue block builds, students worked together, building communication and problem-solving skills.
Artsy Thursday encouraged creativity through color and texture. Classrooms buzzed with marble painting, bug-themed crafts, watercolors, and large group collage projects, inviting children to express themselves artistically.
Family Friday welcomed families into classrooms to start the day with stories. Parents and guardians joined their children for a special drop-off reading time, reinforcing the joy of shared literacy experiences.
The week was filled with laughter, learning, and meaningful moments, reflecting HBCSD’s commitment to nurturing child development from the start. To learn more about our ECE programs, visit the HBCSD Preschool Website.
Let’s continue to empower our youngest learners—together!
